Choosing the Right Exterior Shutters for Your Home

Historically, shutters protected any openings in the house from rain and small animals. Shutters were in use long before windows, but now shutters are used simply as a decoration to the exterior of the house. However, shutters should still appear to be functional. They need to properly fit the window and if closed, cover the entire window. There are several different styles of shutters to choose from that will complement the style of your house.
•    Bahama – These shutters open from the bottom, much like an awning over the window. Bahama shutters are most commonly seen in coastal areas as their design can help protect the windows from the sun.
•    Board – Consisting of several boards held together with a support beam or two, board shutters give a house a rustic charm. They are ideal for country styled houses.
•    Louvered – For homes that follow a Southern architecture style, louvered shutters are the most historically accurate. This style of shutter is specifically designed to protect windows from rain.
•    Paneled – Made with multiple panels, this style of shutter is most often seen on Colonial homes. The panels can be a variety of sizes.
When selecting shutters for your house, it is important to choose a style that will complement the exterior of your house. Call American Classic Shutters Inc. for more information regarding exterior shutters.
